Jesus takes up his cross (John 19:17).
In many pamphlets and books Station 2 is linked with the Chapel of the Flagellation. This really doesn’t make sense though because Jesus took up his cross after being condemned to death and beaten.
Out on the street on the back side of the Chapel of Condemnation is the second marker, a disk with the Roman Numeral 2 on it. This is Station 2. It corresponds with the action of Jesus taking up his cross. Once you are done, continue heading west.
The Via Dolorosa St. will run into a “T” intersection at Al Wad St. Turn left to head south on Al Wad St. Station 3 will be on your left almost immediately after you turn.
